Wine With That?

The new hot Fall color is apparently "wine" (also known as Bordeaux or maroon). Fortunately, I have several dresses in that color, like this one from designer Rebecca Taylor.

Dress: Rebecca Taylor Bordeaux and Black Colorblocked Dress

The dress is on clearance at Bluefly for a great price! It's also available at SaksOff5th.com in just a few sizes.

Julia for a Day

Whenever I wear today's dress, I think of Julia Roberts and her brown and white polka dot dress from Pretty Woman.

I was 12 when the movie came out, and it was a big deal that my parents allowed my sisters and I to watch it. It remains one of my favorite movies of all time. It's hard to believe Julia was just 21 years old when she made that movie.

Suddenly Fall

Today was the first day I truly realized that the season of tank tops and flip-flops has come to an end. It was actually chilly this morning, and I am wearing long(ish) sleeves!

I think you can really see the red in my hair in this outside shot. Here's one from inside:

Time for Auburn

My post title has more meaning than just a reference to football season; you may not have noticed, but my hair is now an auburn color. Auburn for Autumn on this first full day of Fall.

What do you think of the new color?

Perfect Symmetry

I've been a fan of designer Jay Godfrey for several years now; he definitely knows how to design for women who have boobs and hips!

Today's dress is no exception. The body-con silhouette still manages to be slimming due to the innovative play on color usage and curvy shapes.

Hitting a High Note

Today I'm wearing another whimsical dress from designer Eva Franco. If you look close enough, you can see that the pattern on the dress is actually made up of musical notes. What I don't know is if the notes correspond to an actual piece of music!

The dress is no longer available, but check out this similar style on Bluefly.com.

Dress: Eva Franco Black & Ivory Belted Music Note Dress

Sandals: Kate Spade New York Fresia Patent Platform Sandals

Lipstick: Lancome Rouge in Love #275 Jolie Rosalie

I am way overdue for a hair trim, so please excuse the state of my hair in today's picture. I am headed to the hair salon on Saturday!

UPDATE:
After posting this photo on Instagram, designer Eva Franco left a comment for me about the design:
Responding to the question of whether the notes correspond to an actual piece of music, Ms. Franco wrote:

It does, actually... to The Rite of Spring.

Red + Gray = Yes

I absolutely love pairing red and gray. It's a great way to dress up what could otherwise be a fairly drab outfit.

Shoes and Purse: Kate Spade New York

The Kate Spade accessories are in that Maraschino Cherry Red - the perfect topping. Ha ha. The Kate Spade New York Nouvo Dress Pumps are still available in a different color scheme at 6pm.

Blue Monday

Dress: Shoshanna Navy Geo Lace Antonia Dress (no longer available)

I love the geometrically patterned lace on this dress, which I think takes what could have been a simple lace dress to another level. The blue lace overlay sits on top of a black background, so you can really see the shapes in person. The cap sleeve detailing makes this navy dress one of my favorites... and it's so comfortable, too.

Fringe Worthy

I am not a big fan of fringe, but on certain pieces, fringe can work really well to add more fun to an ordinary outfit. That's how I feel about this dress from Nanette Lepore.

Marooned

Important business meetings call for professional outfits, but that's no reason you can't look chic. I am not a big fan of dressing like a man (i.e. wearing pants or pantsuits); just because you may have a high powered position, doesn't mean you have to abandon your femininity. Instead: embrace it!

Dress: Single Dress by Galina Sobolev

I love the maroon color of today's dress, partly because it goes so perfectly with my ruby jewelry, and partly because it's just a great color. As I post these photos to Instagram - don't forget to follow me! - I've noticed a trend: people respond more to outfits with a bold color choice as opposed to simpler black and white or muted tones.

My advice: look at your own wardrobe, and see where you can add a little color. I like posting my outfits of the day because it helps me vary weekly color choices as well!

If you need shopping help, just leave a comment. Tell me your size and height, what kind of outfit you need, your budget, and I will start the hunt. I never buy anything full price. There are some great deals out there if you are willing to spend time looking.

I could not find today's dress online, but the Veronika style dress is available in other colors:

Mad Hatter

I attended a bridal shower this weekend for my friend, Emily, who is getting married in October. The event had a Mad Hatter/ Tea Party theme, and everyone had to come wearing a hat. What do you think of my black fascinator? I chose one that would really stand out, and that I can hopefully wear again if I ever attend a British wedding or the Kentucky Derby.

Whimsical Whales

There is something so sweet and whimsical about this whale patterned dress from Eva Franco. I think the print, combined with the fit and flare silhouette, make it a perfect casual Friday or weekend wear dress.

Dress: Eva Franco

The dress is denim, so it's actually quite heavy. I don't have too many denim dresses.

This particular dress is no longer available, but Amazon has a fit and flare design with a front zipper in a beautiful forest green and wine. (Wine is apparently the color for Fall 2014, too.) I would also check out this cute black and white bow dress. It has a similar sense of whimsy.

The sandals are sold out, but here is a comparable style. See all L.A.M.B. sandals at Amazon.

If my hair doesn't look as sleek as normal, it's because I had a mishap with my straightening iron this morning. The cap from my hairspray came off and somehow became wedged between the two halves of the straightener. I didn't notice when I turned it on, and I had melted plastic soon after. Fortunately, my back up straightener worked okay, but it's not my first choice. Lesson learned!

I am still feeling under the weather, but definitely on the road to recovery. Have a great weekend!

Love Lace

In the right context, lace can make an amazing addition to any outfit.

I like the use of it on this work appropriate dress from Trina Turk; the color serves to highlight the intricate design, but it's not too dressy for the office.

What do you think? Would you wear lace to work?

Shoes: Modern Vintage Suede T-Strap Pumps

If I look a little paler than usual, it's because I am most likely coming down with a sinus infection. I always get sick around this time of year when the seasons start to change. I have a busy weekend ahead, so hopefully I will feel better soon. Happy Thursday!

Celebrity Sightings!
Multiple celebrities have been spotted in this dress:

Speaking of Scandal, I am currently obsessed with the show. I started watching it a few weeks ago on Netflix, and I've been binge watching ever since. If you haven't seen the show, and like drama mixed with romance with a pinch of murder and lots of sex, then you need to watch this show!

Fun fact: I actually met Tony Goldwyn back in 2001 during the junket for Someone Like You. He directed the film. I was never a fan - who could like him after Ghost? - but he's back on my good side as President Grant.

Rose Gold Accents

I'm thinking of my sisters today, Gail in Chicago and Laura here in Georgia, so I wanted to wear the Gorjana necklace they gave me a few years ago. The necklace has three circles entwined, as in three sisters. I love these girls so much!

The necklace is made of rose gold, just like these Kate Spade New York pumps. I wasn't sure about pairing a blue dress with black and rose gold shoes, but I think it works. Do you agree?

Dress: Nanette Lepore Chase Me Dress in Azul

The dress is on sale at NanetteLepore.com, but it's also available at the following retailers:

I love the vibrant sapphire jewel tone of the dress, combined with the sexy but still professional silhouette. Nanette Lepore is one of my favorite designers; I love her feminine style.
