Summer LBD

It has been such a busy week -- a busy month, actually -- but things should start to wind down a little as summer approaches. The weather has been hovering around 95 for weeks now, so it actually feels like summer already in Atlanta, but technically it's still spring.

This dress is one I've had in my closet a few months. I'm not sure why I haven't worn it yet, but today... out it came. It's a very sweet and feminine dress from one of my favorite designers: Trina Turk.

The top part of the dress is definitely what makes this LBD stand out. I especially love the lace collar and yoke and the little flutter sleeves.

Chapin bought me these shoes for Christmas. They are so cute, with tiny bows that add to the overall femininity of this look.

Running

It's been so much fun to discover a new passion later in life: running! I don't think I started really taking running seriously until my late 30s. I wanted to run the Peachtree Road Race back in 2013 and started training... and it just took off from there.

I started out this week, Monday (Memorial Day), running in the Urban Tree Cidery 5K. I came in second in the Masters Group -- females 40+. I can't compete with those fast runners who do a mile in five or six minutes, but I'm not slow.

Here are a few photos from the run! Boy, was it hot!

Hawaiian Dreams

It doesn't feel like today should be a Monday. I need one more Sunday! At least the upcoming weekend will be a long one. We are not traveling this Memorial Day, so I'm looking forward to relaxing poolside with a good book. We also have a few activities planned, including dinner with friends and (for me) a 5K run on Monday morning!

Plus, Memorial Day is a great time to shop! So many sales... so little time. I can't wait.

Today I'm wearing a dress that was a birthday gift from my parents, one that my mom and Aunt Annamarie picked out for me together. I love the wild flowers against the navy background; it reminds me of Hawaii at night.

Dress: Vince Camuto Cap Sleeve Floral Print Fit and Flare Dress

The dress is simple but very flattering, and made from scuba material that makes it easy to wear and maintain. There will be no need to iron this dress!

I almost wore pink shoes, but decided to play up the blue in the background instead with these SJP sandals. My earrings are also blue.

Mocha Monday

I feel like the past few weeks have been a whirlwind of activity, so I spent this past weekend relaxing, sleeping and cuddling with my fur babies. It was Mother's Day on Sunday, after all, so I'm glad I had a chance to spend so much time with Norman and Wally. (I have it so easy compared to all those hard working moms of human children, though. As Wayne and Garth would say... "I'm not worthy!" I'm not worthy!")

Today's dress is one I chose mainly because I didn't have to iron it. As I'm normally rushing to get out the door in the morning, the less I need to do to an item of clothing, the better! The dress is also made of a knit material, a little heavy to wear when it's in the 80s (or hotter) out. But I guess the rain Atlanta received over the weekend cooled things off, and today's high was only 74 degrees, making the dress a great choice for this busy Monday.

I normally like dresses with pops of color, but I really liked the design on this Parker New York dress, and it almost perfect matches the design on the heels of my Kate Spade shoes! I decided the pop of color, then, should come from my lips, so I'm wearing a vibrant hot pink color.

Something Special for My Birthday

I have to apologize for not updating my blog lately. I've just been so busy working, traveling, running... it's been a crazy few weeks.

Here are a few highlights:
  • Chapin and I spent a long weekend in Phoenix over Easter weekend. Local Marketing, Inc. may be opening up a second office there in the near future. Chapin and I had fun exploring the terrain -- yes, we even did a mini-hike in Papago Park -- and attending a lavish birthday party for my business partner's niece. It was so much fun!
  • At the end of April, I ran the Lauren's Run 5K and earned a gold medal (for the 40-49 age group). It was sixth year running this 5K -- and my first gold for this particular race! It's a tough course, with almost the entire second mile going uphill. Sheesh!
  • If I look a little tan, it's because Chapin and I just got back from a trip to the Turks & Caicos. We went for a wedding, but made a vacation out of it, and had so much fun!
And, of course, today is my birthday. 41 years old! I still can't believe I'm in my 40s.

Outfit Details:

Dress: Badgley Mischka Floral Pleated Cocktail Dress

I love everything about this dress, so I wanted to wear it on my birthday. I adore the neckline and cap sleeves, and the print is even prettier in person, tinged with gold and in a beautiful blue color. It's the perfect dress for a May spring day! It even has pockets.
