Colorful Dress, Brighter Outlook
I love a good fit and flare dress. It's hard to go wrong with such a flattering silhouette, and this dress has some extra poof due to the tulle in the skirt. It's a fun, colorful summer dress that brightens my day whenever I wear it. I love that my sandals and even my toenail color, an "obnoxious" pink (translation: Strawberry Margarita by OPI), matches the vitality of the dress.

Fun and Flirty Monday
My style definitely bounces from professional and chic to more whimsical and feminine. I think today's dress, from Shoshanna, definitely fits into the latter category. It's a fun fit and flare silhouette, complete with pockets and bouncy skirt. It makes me want to spin around and around like a preschooler.

I had a fun weekend hanging out with my family. We had two reasons to celebrate: Father's Day and the arrival of my sister, Gail, who is visiting for a week from Chicago. Sometimes it's hard to balance family time with hubby time and work time - yes, I had to work this weekend, too - but somehow I manage. I even fit in watching the season three finale episode of Orange Is the New Black. Chapin and I both love the show, and I thought it was a great season, mixing more serious story lines in with more lighthearted ones, like Crazy Eyes writing a pornographic novel that had everyone obsessed. I just wish these Netflix seasons had more episodes!

My Favorite Day Dress
My favorite dress seems to change week to week, but right now, my pick is this super cute summertime dress from my favorite designer, Shoshanna Gruss. I love the cut and the black and white print with the bold peach and blue flowers.
It's a great dress for a casual Friday at work, or for fun weekend activities like shopping or brunching.

Always In Style
The little black dress, or LBD, should be a staple in your closet, and it's definitely okay to own more than one. I own many, but I love the cut of this Shoshanna dress (especially the v-neck and cap sleeves) and the subtle geometric pattern in the material. It just gives it that something extra and helps it stand out from every other black dress in your closet.
It's easy to jazz up a little black dress with color; for example, add some bright accessories like a yellow or red purse and heels. Vary it each time you wear the dress. Have fun with it! I chose to wear these Jimmy Choo black and gold heels.
My business partner, who is currently in New York setting up Local Marketing, Inc.'s New York office, tells me that all the women in New York wear only black all the time. I was sad to hear this news, because while I love an LBD, it's nice to add some color into your wardrobe as well.

The shoes are sold out (check eBay), but here's a similar style from Jimmy Choo - and they are currently on sale!

Black and Bow
Going out to dinner in Atlanta is always an interesting experience for two Atlanta foodies. Chapin and I tend to favor the same restaurants -- we like what we like! -- but we are always excited to try a new one. Better Half recently entered the Atlanta dining scene, and it's not far from home, so Chapin and I ate there this past Saturday night.
My outfit for the evening was the other Nanette Lepore dress my family gave me for my birthday. Unfortunately, I was extremely overdressed for the more casual Atlanta eatery.
Dress: Nanette Lepore Masquerade Dress
I love a dress that is sexy but still on the subtle side. I think this dress is classy, chic and fun, and still ultra feminine in that wonderful Nanette Lepore style.
The dress is still available at Saks Off 5th (link above), as well as 6pm.com and Amazon. It comes in a metallic green or black. (My mom liked the black better.)
Shoes: Jimmy Choo Maya Studded Pumps (no longer available)
We ate at the bar, or "Chef's Counter" as it is called at Better Half, so we had a prime view of the chefs as they prepared all the dishes. It was like watching a cooking show in real life!
The restaurant is small (intimate), but the service was still wonderful. I had the tilefish for my main course, but I think my favorite part of the meal was the appetizer: a watermelon filet with minted goat cheese, watermelon textures and basil. It was so pretty I didn't want to eat it! I highly recommend visiting Better Half if you're in the Atlanta area.

Look the Part
In my office, and many offices around the country, dressing more casually has become the norm. I allow my team to wear jeans to work, for example, if they are not going to be meeting with any clients.
Early in my career, I probably wore jeans to work most days. (I know... hard to believe!) Back then, I didn't realize that you really do have to dress for the position you want - not the one you're in. I think it all comes down to confidence. That's definitely something I've had to work on my entire life, and I still find myself feeling insecure in certain situations. I guess that's life!
This outfit is one that I think looks professional and chic at the same time. You can "spice up" any black and white outfit with some bold shoes and accessories. I chose to add some bright red shoes to this ensemble, and many people pointed them out and complimented me on them.
I also seem to be having a good hair day, which is surprising considering the humidity in Atlanta lately. I will focus an upcoming post on some of my most loved hair care products... and there are many.

Brother and Sister Time
This weekend, we spent some time with Chapin's sister, Stacey, and her husband, Daniel. They arrived in Atlanta on Saturday afternoon, and we took them to an early dinner at Ecco, one of our favorite Midtown restaurants. We talked and ate for about three hours, which is my favorite way to spend an evening.
Here is a great picture of the brother and sister duo before we headed out for the evening. Can't you see the resemblance?
Stacey and I actually have the same birthday, which I will forever think is such a weird coincidence. It's the same day, year, and month.
Although I missed seeing my nephews, I was so happy to see Stacey and Daniel. They also had the chance to meet Norman. He gets car sick on even short car rides, so we have been hesitant to take him on any trips. I'm hoping that with some meds that will change this summer.
Since this blog is focused on fashion, I will mention the outfit I wore to dinner.

This dress is really slimming. The side panels and the back of the bodice are in black!
Shoes: Saint Laurent Paris 80 Studded Cap Toe Pumps (sold out, but check eBay)
Eye Makeup: My eye shadow is a blend of some different NARS products, and the eyeliner is Lancome Precision Liner in Black. I added a little Navy eyeliner (also Lancome Precision Liner) in the corners of my eyes for emphasis.

Make Your Office Your Runway
I'm sure some people think I go overboard when it comes to dressing for work, but for me, the extra time I spend getting ready is worth it. It's a confidence booster!
I used to be an extremely shy person. My first years out of college, my face would turn bright red any time I had to speak out loud in a meeting or answer a question. I think I would be farther along in my career if I could have been more outspoken and confident early on.
But you live and learn.
I was an English major and journalism vet suddenly thrust into the business world. I didn't think I knew anything. I went to graduate school (finally) when I turned 28, and realized that I was actually smart and knowledgeable. Combine that with a new interest in fashion, and... here we are.
I dress nicely every day because it makes me feel good about myself. It's just a bonus that if a client happens to walk in the office unannounced... I'm prepared.
Today's Outfit:
Dress: Shoshanna Lace Peplum Dress
Similar item (and on sale for under $100): Shoshanna Celeste Peplum Dress at Saks Off 5th.
Sandals: Jimmy Choo
On the lips: NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella
I get a kick out of the name, and the color will stay on your lips all day. I use it as both a lip liner and also to fill in my lips.
