The Right Spin

I love how a designer can take just a normal dress and make it look like new again -- just by adding little details. In this case, Alice + Olivia has added a feminine collar and sleeves to an existing dress design, elevating the overall aesthetic.

Outfit Details:

Dress: Alice + Olivia Delora Fitted Collared Dress

The dress is still available on the Alice + Olivia website, as well as retailers like ShopBop and Neiman Marcus.

Shoes: SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker Taylor Closed Toe T-Strap Pump

I also adore these SJP pumps; they are so chic and eye-catching!

Wow, it's hard to believe the long Thanksgiving weekend is over already. Chapin and I had a wonderful time visiting family in Fairhope, Alabama, where we had beautiful weather on Thanksgiving Day and a delicious feast, complete with turkey, stuffing, Brussels sprouts and more fixings!

My two nephews, Grayson and Finn, are getting so big, and we had fun chasing Norman and Wally around my in-laws' backyard (I adore the lemon tree you can see behind me), playing Bocce Ball and Villainous, and watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and National Dog Show.

Superman: The Movie

I also saw my own parents when we returned to Atlanta. I met up with them yesterday to take in a Sunday showing of Superman! It's back in theaters for a limited time to celebrate the movie's 40th anniversary. It's one of my favorite movies, and when I was little I thought my dad looked just like Clark Kent. The movie originally came out on December 15, 1978, when I was around seven months old, so I never had a chance to see it on the big screen. It's still such a fun movie to watch.

Outfit of the Day

Although we had decent weather over the weekend, the temperature in Atlanta has fallen, so I'm trying really hard to keep my teeth from chattering in today's photo. The wind was blowing so hard!

Fortunately, I chose to wear this gorgeous black sheath dress from Rebecca Taylor today, which is made of a heavier material than many of my other dresses. I love all the detail that went into the making of this dress, from the high neck to the fluttery lace cap sleeves to the scallop edge at the hem.

Today's dress is another example of how you can create an optical illusion in fashion. Your eye really goes to the shoulders, and the wide angle on top tapers down to make the waist seem even smaller.

Dress: Rebecca Taylor Pointelle Lace Sheath Dress

You can still buy the dress at a few online retailers, including Amazon and Saks Off 5th.

Shoes: Prada Bow Tie Platform Sandals

Today is also the biggest Internet shopping day of the year: Cyber Monday. I may have made a few purchases... how about you?

Happy shopping!

Shifting Ahead

Today's dress is a shift dress, a type of dress that I don't wear too often because of it's propensity to make me look too boxy. A shift dress, by definition, doesn't really have any definition -- it's simply a layer of clothing designed to hang straight down on your body, giving off the impression that your body is a column.

It's opposite would be the sheath dress, which hangs on every curve.

Since I have curves, I tend not to buy too many shift dresses. Since this shift dress from Shoshanna was on sale for under $50 (original price: $398), though, I wanted to at least see how it looked on my frame.

I actually like the overall look, which is a little different for me. It's an interesting design, with the bell sleeves, large in volume, beautifully contrasting with the shapeless main form of the dress. Plus, the color is gorgeous; this cranberry hue works with every skin tone, and is one of my favorites.

Dress: Shoshanna Cambee Shift Dress in Cranberry

The dress is still available on Amazon!

Shoes: Stuart Weitzman Soundtrack High Heel Sandals in Currant (no longer available)

You may have noticed that I didn't post any outfit pics last week, and that's because I just recently had my eyebrow microblading touch up appointment at Brows by Milly. I had to endure another ten days of trying not to get my brows wet or sweating too much, which is hard for me with my workout routine. I'm glad to be getting back to normal, even if it is just in time for Thanksgiving.

Let the holidays begin!

Woman in White

I don't normally gravitate toward all white dresses, but I adore the Shoshanna brand, and I liked the mix of lace and cotton in this particular design. Plus, I got the dress for a steal! I paid around $50 for a dress that retails for $360! I love my deals.

Dress: Shoshanna Leaf Weave Eyelet Monica Dress

Shoes: Schutz Scalloped Lace-Cut Leather Sandals

Tomorrow, I will be going back to Brows by Milly for my touch-up microblading appointment. Now that I know more about the overall experience, I'm actually looking forward to it! It's been so wonderful to wake up and have eyebrows.

Halloween and Our Anniversary 2018

It's been an incredibly busy few days in our household!

We celebrated Halloween on October 31st by dressing up as a family. The theme: The Wizard of Oz! My husband is always an incredibly good sport about dressing up in whatever costume I throw at him.

Dorothy: Michele
The Tin Man: Chapin
The Lion: Norman
The Scarecrow: Wally

We have to take about 50 pictures just to get any good ones of the boys. Norman is the worst because he's always looking around instead of at the camera! Chapin likes to say that he has the worst case of FOMO he's ever seen. (FOMO = Fear of Missing Out.)

Aren't these boys the cutest?

I also made this sugar cookie cake to take to my office Halloween party. I dyed the frosting green to go for a "slime" motif, and added some black bat sprinkles, googly eyes and candy corn for decoration. I am so not creative when it comes to decorations -- think the Nailed It! Netflix show -- but people seemed to like what I did. Go figure!

As my Dorothy costume was way too short to wear to the office, I recycled an old Halloween outfit: The Cat in the Hat! I love this costume because it's so easy and incredibly cute. All you need is an all black outfit, and you just add the hat, gloves, necktie and a little cat makeup. (I used an eyeliner pencil to give myself a black nose and whiskers.)

The following day, November 1st, Chapin and I also celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary, which also marks exactly 19 years since our first date in 1999. We went out to a very nice restaurant here in Atlanta, Bacchanalia, and had a wonderful dinner. Here we are all dressed up!

Dress: Shoshanna Moreno High-Low Dress

You can also find the dress at Punch Boutique. I've never shopped this site before, but it has a lot of cute dresses!

Shoes: Jimmy Choo Claudet 100 Lamé Sandals (no longer available)

I took this dress to Paris but never had a chance to wear it. I'm glad to be wearing it now for such a special occasion.

The Bacchanalia staff was incredibly accommodating, since as you know I suffer from Celiac Disease. The chef modified recipes for me and our waitress helped me narrow down the choices. Here is a sampling of what we enjoyed on our date night:

Now we have the weekend ahead, and Chapin is taking me jewelry shopping on Sunday for an anniversary present. Yippee!
