The Eyelet Summer Dress

One of my favorite summer dresses is the eyelet dress. The fabric is easy to wear and light enough for any hot summer day -- even in Atlanta!

I don't normally love high low dresses (it's fashion's version of the mullet, in my opinion), but the dress has such a laid back vibe that it works. It's definitely more of a casual dress, so the slightly longer back helps bring it up a notch. The color is beautiful, too!

I first wore the dress back in May during our trip to the Turks and Caicos. It works as a great beach dress, weekend dress or for a casual day in the office. It is summer, after all!

Sick in Summer

It's not easy being sick in summer! I spent the weekend couch-ridden after coming down with a nasty summer cold late last week. I know I've been run down, and I guess my body was telling me to slow down. I couldn't do much but sleep, read (I'm almost done with The Lido, by Libby Page) and watch TV.

We recently signed up for Hulu, and I've been having fun discovering old shows on the streaming service. I watched episodes of Perfect Strangers (one of the best theme songs, right?) and The Wonder Years, and added Buffy, Angel, My So-Called Life, Felicity and Beverly Hills, 90210 to my queue.

I also binged the first season of Agent Carter (thank you for the recommendation, Elizabeth) and a few episodes of Shrill, a new Hulu original comedy starring SNL vet Aidy Bryant. I highly recommend it!

I'm still feeling a little sick today, but hopefully this illness is making its way out of my body. I just want to feel like myself again.

I chose this dress because -- with its knit fabric -- it is so comfortable, and I knew I would want comfort above all else today since I'm still not feeling great.

The dress doesn't have much shape to it, but that's okay when it's comfort first.

I've had these shoes for years (five or six, at least) and they are still in style. I just love them!

Earthy

This blue-green dress from Belle Badgley Mischka is so beautiful and ornate! I love the unique design and all the little details in the lace crochet pattern.

How to Add Your Own Style to the Little Black Dress

What is one staple that every woman has in her closet? Most likely, it's the LBD: the Little Black Dress. Black is the most versatile color, slimming you down and helping you look your best -- and it's a color that works on everyone.

But how do you best style the LBD?

You can add colorful jewelry and shoes, keep it simple with black or neutral accessories, or go all black and white. Whatever you decide -- it should be an expression of your own style, and appropriate for the occasion, of course.

Today, since I'm just going to the office, I didn't do much with my accessories. I wore ruby jewelry and chose these sparkly SJP shoes to fancy up what is really a very simple dress.

The neckline is why I really wanted to buy this dress. I love a dress with a square neck, since I feel it's the most flattering on me. I also liked that it was made of a scuba material (no ironing) and has that lacy design along the edges. The dress run true to size, and I'm wearing a size 2 for reference. It's a very comfortable dress that won't be going out of style anytime soon.

Ali & Jay

Amazon is going to rule the world one day. The company seems to have its hands in every industry -- even fashion. Today's dress is from the Amazon brand, Ali & Jay, and was purchased for just $30.

When it comes to summer dresses, I'm all about ease. I want to put on a dress, no ironing required, and have the flexibility to wear it with any type of shoe (flats, sandals, etc.). This dress hits all the right notes...  and it's super cute, too.

Sizing advice: I've never bought anything from the Ali & Jay brand, so I wanted to pass on some sizing information. In my opinion, the dress runs true to size. I got an Extra Small, but probably would have been fine in a Small, too. The top stretches and the material flows easily over the hips, so either way, you should be fine. But I would order your normal size.

Shoes: Prada Bow Tie Platform Sandals (no longer available)

The neutral color scheme of the dress, with black, ivory and beige stripes, means it will work with black, nude or even white or ivory shoes. I had my pick of shoes to wear with this dress today, but I liked these Prada platform sandals best. They help 'dress' up the look, while wearing flats may have made it too casual. I can definitely see myself wearing this dress not only to work, but for weekend outings, too.

Plum Idea

You know you're getting old when you stay out too late -- just by a few hours -- and it takes DAYS to recover. I didn't go to bed until past midnight on Saturday night, as I was attending the Man and Woman of the Year Gala with a colleague. The next day... I suffered. Today, I'm still looking tired. Getting old really is the worst!

I love the ruffles at the shoulders and hem. The dress is feminine but still stylish.

Here are a few photos from the gala on Saturday night. It was a great event, with almost $2.4 million raised to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). I even won a silent auction bid for a bag of pet goodies! The event was black tie, so it was fun to get dressed up. I chose an Alice + Olivia dress -- the Alice and Olivia McKee Mock-Neck Tiered Printed Satin Maxi Dress -- for the occasion.

Teal Time

I love my colorful dresses, and this gorgeous teal dress from Alice + Olivia is certainly eye-catching. Although the fit and flare silhouette is not new to my closet, I definitely don't have anything in such a bold paisley print. How could I resist? (Clearly -- I couldn't!)

Divine

Mondays always come too soon! I'm coming off a very relaxing weekend. Chapin and I had zero social obligations, and thus managed to get in some good quality time together, eating dinner at Miller Union on Saturday night, watching You'll Always Be My Maybe and snacking on chicken nachos and margaritas/beer on Sunday at our favorite Mexican restaurant, Zama. The Paradise Margarita is my favorite drink -- it tastes so much like a piña colada. Yum!
