May Dresses and Tulip, Too

Here are a few dresses I wore throughout the month of May. Tulip and I both celebrate a birthday this month, so I'm including a few shots of her in her party dress as well. She just turned six! I, on the other hand, just celebrated turning 46. How am I that old?!

Star Wars Day and Dinner Out

Dinner out on April 30th with my new running friend, Jacque, called for a casual yet fun dress. Enter LoveShackFancy! The dresses in style these days are so short, though. I hope I'm not getting too old to wear them. I'll be 46 in just a few days. Eeek!

Chapin and I also went out for Star Wars trivia on May 4th -- May the Fourth Be With You! I ordered this droid dress from HerUniverse.com for the occasion -- although it didn't bring us much luck. We were in second place going into the final question and then completely blew it! Oh well!

It's super weird to see me in a dress and flats, but you can't go to a pizza place like MTH Pizza in heels!

Mid-April Outfits

My newest favorite designer just might be Rebecca Vallance. How beautiful is this strapless bow dress? I wore it to the Fox Theatre to see Six: The Musical this past weekend.

Office Appearances

This week, I met up with several LMi colleagues at a shared office space in Atlanta. It was fun to dress in work clothes and leave the house for a few days of brainstorming, collaboration and strategy.

I chose these two outfits for my out-of-the-house adventures:

Day 1: 

Dress: DVF Bettina Mesh Dress

Diane von Furstenburg always delivers when it comes to chic work dresses, and the Bettina dress is no exception. The slit, a popular style element these days, shows off the leg and the neckline is open and flattering. Longer sleeves cover the arms and the puffed mesh fabric at the shoulders draws the eye in toward the tapered waist.

The version with the gold stud is no longer available online, but here's a crystal version you can buy now. Valentino, especially pink Valentino, is always a good investment. (Next -- the matching bag!)

Day 2: 

Dress: Black Halo Legend Sheath Dress in Flamingo Pink

Another day, another slit! The Legend dress is no longer available, but the Bridget style from Black Halo is extremely similar, with cute buttons for an added design element.

My favorite part of this outfit is probably the peachy shoes, which are perfect for any Georgia day. The matching purse is also on my Wish List!

Easter Fun

Easter this year was a low key affair, with Chapin, Tulip and I visiting my parents in Alpharetta for an early dinner. The weather was picture perfect, meaning I could break out a summery dress for the occasion!

Since we had Tulip with us, I needed a dress that could get a little hairy, and for some reason eyelet doesn't attract pug hair like other fabrics. Enter this fun and flirty LIKELY dress. The style is perfect for showing off toned arms, and the grapefruit color was a great choice for the Easter holiday.

Dinners With Friends

Wow, it's hard to believe this post will be my first in 2024! Now that I'm working from home, I am usually wearing jeans or shorts as opposed to my beloved dresses. But this week, I had two opportunities to see friends, which of course called for a #dressup moment.

The dress is super cute and comfortable -- it even has pockets -- and the color is a gorgeous pink. Since it's still early Spring, and since we were planning to eat outside at the restaurant, the heavier crepe material was perfect for the occasion. I was pleasantly surprised that I could wear my strapless bra without it showing, too!

Christmas Concert Dress

Saturday night I attended the Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra Christmas Pops concert with my Mom and Dad. It's been a tradition in my family to attend the event for the last few years (minus 2020 and 2021). Although we originally started going to see my Dad sing in the choir, now it's an annual event to help us get into the holiday spirit. (My dad retired from the choir and singing several years ago.)

I chose this AMUR dress for its pink and green (holiday-esque) color scheme and gorgeous silhouette. I'm just so in love with it, and the Nalebe mules are a perfect match to the green in the floral pattern.

Pop of Purple

I had a meeting today with a client, and I chose this Black Halo dress for the occasion. It's chic and professional but still has some sizzling elements, like the side slit and open neckline. 

I love yellow with purple, so I paired the dress with my new purple Bettina Vermillon pumps. The purple really complements the yellow and draws the eye.

Work From Home Chic

This week marks my official start to working from home. We decided not to renew the office lease, since everyone works remotely now from all over the country, so I no longer have a physical office to go to outside of the house. Where will I wear all my dresses?

Lemon Squeeze

I actually have this dress in a darker version, but I love the silhouette and the fun yellow and purple floral print. The color/print is actually called "Lemon Squeeze."

This dress also gave me an excuse to wear a new pair of Sophia Webster pumps. These pumps don't exactly match, but the pastel colors complement the floral print of the dress, so it works!

Forgotten Dress

I originally bought this dress back in 2019, but I guess I never wore it on the blog. I saw a similar dress on the Netflix fashion now, Next in Fashion, which started me searching for a photo to show Chapin. Suffice it to say, I came up emptyhanded. So, here is the Parker dress that's been sitting in my closet for four years:

Unfortunately, the Parker brand has taken a very long fashion pause. The website has been dormant since COVID started almost three years ago, with no new items produced. According to the website, there is a new e-commerce site coming soon, but we shall see if that really happens. I do hope it returns, though. The brand is fun and flirty and always had great pieces.

Lucky Excuse

St. Patrick's Day is still a few days away, but I needed an excuse to wear this green Black Halo dress to the office. I know it's a bit fancy -- yes, it's really more suited for a cocktail party or wedding -- but I don't get invited to many of those types of events these days, so the office will have to do.

Sparkly, green and fabulous, this Black Halo dress might very well be a new favorite. It even has long, PUFFED sleeves. Oh yes, please.

Daylight Savings, the Oscars and a Weather Change

Waking up this morning was so hard! I stayed up later than normal because of the time change -- I wasn't even remotely tired when my clock read 10 p.m. -- and because I was watching the Oscars. I have seen more nominated movies than usual this year, and of course I had to root for actors like Ke Huy Quan (Goonies Never Say Die!) and Brendan Fraser -- who both won, by the way! What a night!

Of course, I also watch for the fashion, and my favorite dress of the night went to model-actress Cara Delevingne in Elie Saab. From the dramatic slit and shoulder to the overall styling, she looked perfect. I even love the pockets. There were a lot of white dresses on the carpet this year, but I like color, and this whole look was sophisticated and sexy yet still looked comfortable enough for a long evening at an awards show.

 

My dress today isn't nearly as dramatic, but it does have long sleeves. After some amazing weather last week, the temperatures in Atlanta have fallen, and tonight there's even freeze warning. Ugh. Where is spring already?

I think this dress perfectly sums up the in-between season that is March. We're dreaming of a floral-perfect spring but can't move away from the long sleeves just yet.

Marbled

There is something so chic about this Diane von Furstenberg dress; from the high neck to the belted waist to the marbled black and gold print, this dress oozes class and sophistication. I love it so much I even took it to Spain with me, wearing it out to dinner one night in Seville. It also makes a perfect work dress.

Early Spring

It's definitely feeling like Spring here in Atlanta, with my allergies starting up (thank you, pollen) and temperatures in the 70s. So what better way to celebrate the start of a new, albeit early, Spring season than with a floral dress. This piece from LIKELY has some of my favorite dress features: flutter sleeves, a tie waist and a high neckline. It even has a slit up the side to add that little bit of sizzle. It's perfect for the office but will work equally well for weekend and more casual outings.
