The Power of Ruching

A ruched dress will work on any body type. It's perfect for hiding flaws and showcasing an hourglass figure. This Black Halo dress combines ruching with one of my favorite colors - royal blue - and a high neck for an overall very flattering outfit.

I love monochromatic looks, which is why I chose to pair these neon blue pumps with the dress. But you could go with a variety of other colors as well, including gold, silver and black, or a printed pump or sandal. And yes -- my eye makeup is blue, too! 

That's a Wrap on Christmas 2021

It was a wonderful Christmas! Unlike last year, when Chapin and I were on our own, we spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with my parents. I was super spoiled this year, with amazing gifts from my husband and family members.

Today I'm wearing a gift from my sister, Gail. I haven't seen Gail in two years, which is crazy to think about! Gail, I miss you! Since we talk or text just about every single day, it doesn't feel like two years, but I hope to see her very soon. I still have yet to meet my newest nephew!

The dress is still available at Dillard's. I'm wearing an XS for reference. There is no zipper, though, which means the dress may be hard for you to put on easily. Tip: Put on your lipstick after you're already dressed!

I tried to curl my hair today, and it was curly probably a few minutes before I stepped outside into the random humidity of a December day in Georgia. It was 70 degrees today. I guess I shouldn't be complaining, though!

Holiday Chic

I may not be wearing red and green, but I still consider today's outfit to be "holiday chic." The Kate Spade dress features pearl and crystal detail at the waistline, and I chose these Sophia Webster pearl-adorned shoes and bag to match. Yes, it's super matchy matchy, but that's what I love about it. The little girl in me is smiling.

Turtleneck Power

We finally put up our tree over the weekend, and with temperatures starting to drop, it's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. 

Today's dress is perfect for the rainy weather, since right now it's still in the 60s here in Atlanta. My arms are bare but I still feel warm and cozy!

Star Bright

I've worn this dress before, out to dinner with friends pre-pandemic, but I thought it would be perfect to wear for an event I'm attending tonight: the opening of a new restaurant, UP on the Roof in Alpharetta. The event will be outside on the rooftop, so I wanted something that would still sparkle when I have my coat on. It's getting chilly here in Atlanta.

If my hair looks a little different, it's because I didn't straighten it! I've been trying out the new tool I just purchased: the Dyson Air Wrap. Since I can't use a curling iron, it makes curling and styling my hair so easy. My hair is difficult, though; it really doesn't hold the curl long. Oh well! At least it looks like it has more body instead of falling straight as a pin.

Coming Up Roses

This dress is really more suited for cocktail hour than a day at work, but since I work out of an empty office most days, it doesn't really matter much! Why bother dressing up, you might ask? Well, it helps me feel normal and honestly more productive; I'm more myself this way.

Looking at this photo, you can tell I'm super tired. I haven't been sleeping well since the time change, even though we gained an hour. It always takes me a full week to adjust now that I'm older. Can't they do away with Daylight Savings Time already?

This playful tie dyed dress from Alice + Olivia could only pair well with a fun and flirty pair of shoes. Tie Dye + Butterflies = Whimsical outfit of the day!

Alice + Olivia tends to run small, so I went with a size four -- and I'm so glad I did. The dress is designed to really fit to your curves, but it's at least lined to help smooth out those wobbly bits.

I went whimsical here with the shoes, but you could also go in an entirely different direction and pair the dress with a more masculine pair of boots. I guess that's why I love fashion; because you can take a simple piece of clothing and really make it your own.
