Pink Is My Signature Color

OK, so pink is not really my signature color, but I can't help thinking of that line from Steel Magnolias, since pink was definitely the color of the moment at the 91st Academy Awards last night. There were all different hues, but everyone from Helen Mirren to Jason Momoa to Julia Roberts herself turned up in pink.

Other notable colors of the night included black and metallic, but I've been partial to color (of late), so I'm honoring the trend today by wearing pink myself in the form of this mini dress from Black Halo.

In addition to the color, what I love about this dress is the structure of the over-sized sleeves. I think they are just amazing. I'm such a sucker for a structured sleeve.

I stayed up too late watching the Oscars... and didn't even make it to the end of the show! At least I saw the moment that counted: that amazing performance by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. I still haven't seen the movie -- I'm behind on movie watching due to the plethora of good TV -- but I've had this song stuck in my head since last night. I plan to watch A Star Is Born... and soon.

This melon-colored sheath dress from Black Halo is the epitome of perfect work wear: bright, flattering, professional and chic!

It's hard to see in the photo, but this dress has some really nice lines that help flatter a woman's body, and the neckline is not only unique, but helps show off the shoulders.

Black Halo dresses are usually expensive -- upwards of $300 -- so I always wait for a sale to buy one. But you can see why these dresses retail for a higher price; the design and the quality of the work and materials are very apparent when you put one on.

I love these brightly colored shoes, and they match perfectly with the dress.

Labor Day is so close, and many retailers are starting their Labor Day sales early. It's a great time of year to shop and stock up for next summer. I can't wait!

Summer of Color

It may not officially be Summer yet, but it's already in the 90s here in Atlanta, so it definitely feels like Summer. One of my favorite things about the "S" seasons: color. You can wear more color, eat more color and enjoy more colors everywhere you turn.

Pink, Red, Flower, Chocolate

Happy Valentine's Day! I'm wearing a beautiful pink sheath dress from Black Halo -- and my most colorful Jimmy Choos -- in honor of this special day. I'm also eating a lot of chocolate. Valentine's Day is, after all, a candy-coated holiday.

I adore so much about this dress: the flattering neckline, the structured cap sleeves and the gorgeous color. It's definitely appropriate to wear this shade of pink, named for a flower, on Valentine's Day.

Happy Valentine's Day 2018!

Something Different

I was recently browsing for deals at my favorite boutique, Mint by Sandpiper, when I came across this sweet long-sleeved dress. I loved the color, but wasn't sure about the silhouette (shift) or the size (two).

A shift dress doesn't have much shape to it, so this silhouette doesn't usually look good on me. The dress was also only available in a size two, a size smaller than I usually wear, so I didn't think it would even fit me.

Then I saw the price.

The store was getting rid of a lot of old inventory, so the dress was CHEAP. After hearing just how much the dress would cost, I decided to take a chance and try it on. I'm so glad I did, because the dress actually fit me!

If you're getting a deal as good as this one, it never hurts to take a risk, whether on a size, style, etc. Things look so different on a person versus a hanger, too.

Fun With Shoes

Today's Alice and Olivia dress is both cute and comfortable -- my favorite combination. The dress is a vibrant coral/poppy hue, and should look great on just about any skin tone. I got so many compliments on the overall outfit, so I guess it worked with my olive complexion.

It's hard to see in the photo, but the dress has a textured, geometric striped pattern, and it is the perfect example of a true fit and flare dress. The fabric is a heavier cotton, and since it's actually been a little chilly here in Atlanta the past few days, it was a good choice for this beautiful Thursday.

These shoes... just so  much fun. They are like the cotton candy version of a pump, with multi-colored heels and bright swathes of purple and coral suede. The heels are super high, too; I just love being tall.

This week has been so busy, but even so, it's hard to believe tomorrow is Friday already. The weeks go so fast... is it really almost Fall? Yikes.
