Silver Shoes

Although most people think of ruby slippers when that infamous pair of shoes from The Wizard of Oz comes to mind, the ruby slippers were actually a Hollywood creation. L. Frank Baum, the author of the Oz books, actually fitted Dorothy in silver shoes. (Hopefully you will answer that trivia question right the next time it comes around!)

"She took off her old leather shoes and tried on the silver ones, which fitted her as well as if they had been made for her." -The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900)

Today, I feel like I'm in my own version of those silver shoes. Although they are black and sequined, they catch the light and sparkle just like I imagine Dorothy's shoes once did.

These shoes are actually quite special to me. Chapin bought them for me on a trip to San Francisco, when I deemed I had nothing to wear with the dress I'd brought for my cousin's wedding. While I was in the hotel room getting ready, he sneaked out and bought them for me. I was so excited (and surprised)... although not happy he paid full price. I do like my bargains, after all.

I like how the shoes and the jeweled neckline both shine in the sunlight!

Busy as a...

This week has passed so quickly because I've been so busy at work. I'm glad it's Friday, and I'm looking forward to spending the evening with my good friend, Erin, who is in town visiting. We are headed to one of my favorite Atlanta restaurants: JCT Kitchen. I definitely plan to sample some fabulous cocktails so I can really unwind!

Today's photo and outfit details:

Dress: French Connection Black and Grey Sheath Dress

I bought this dress back in 2013, so it's no longer available. I don't wear it all that often, honestly, because it's not lined, and as you can see, it's supposed to fit your every curve. My advice when you're wearing a close-fitting dress like this one? Spanx. My husband hates when I wear Spanx, but it makes me feel better about myself (and not so self-conscious about my hips and thighs).

There's nothing wrong with Spanx-ing it up from time to time. Even celebrities as skinny as Kristen Stewart love Spanx, and Miranda mentioned the brand on more than one occasion on Sex and the City.

This weekend, I will be running a 5K - Lauren's Run to Cure Childhood Cancer - with my dad. I haven't run a race since the Peachtree Road Race in July, so I hope I can improve upon my time from last year. My knee has been giving me some problems lately, so we shall see... Wish me luck!

Polka Dotted World

It's a polka dotted world! My dress and bag are both in one of my favorite prints: black and white polka dots.

Too Cold

I can't remember ever starting off November with such chilly weather. I'm ready for the warmer temperatures that the meteorologists are promising will arrive later in the week.

This dress is definitely a winter ready dress, so I was happy to break it out to wear today.

Silver Lining

Dress: Cynthia Steffe Metallic Aniston Fit and Flare Dress

You just can't go wrong in a fit and flare dress, and the inverted pleat on the skirt adds a little something extra. But I think I especially love this dress from designer Cynthia Steffe for its playful metallic print. It works for any skin tone!

Pumps: BCBGMaxAzria Ma-Willoe Pumps in Gunmetal

Although you could wear just about any color shoes with this dress, I chose these BCBGMaxAzria metallic pumps for a head to toe metallic look. The shoes were a gift from my sister-in-law, Stacey, for my 35th birthday, so they are especially special to me.

The shoes are no longer available, but here is a similar style.

I added red lips, ruby earrings and a cherry red Kate Spade New York purse for a little pop of color. I love having a palette like this one to work with, because you can really play with your accessories.
