Whiteout

Today's dress isn't what I would consider my typical style... but that's what I like about it. It's a little bohemian, maybe a tad vintage, with the silhouette providing the modern twist. The high neck and long sleeves are off-set by the shorter skirt, and the fabric is a crinkly, old-fashioned lace.

The lace combined with the ivory color screams wedding dress. But even though I keep thinking about Miss Havisham from Great Expectations, I still love the dress. What do you think? Do you like it or do I look like one big doily?

Dress: Shoshanna Heatherley Dress in Ivory

Here is a similar dress available on Neiman Marcus: the Shoshanna Riverside Lace Trumpet-Sleeve Dress.

Both Shoshanna dresses feature trumpet sleeves, also referred to as bell sleeves, which are all the rage right now. I tend not to embrace "trendy" fashion ploys, but I do like the bohemian element these large, full sleeves bring to the normally feminine and corporate styles I wear.

I'm definitely looking tired today... Is it only Wednesday? The week feels long already. At least January is almost over and the days seem to be getting a little longer. It's not pitch black before 6 p.m. anymore! Spring will definitely be here before we know it.

Day Dress or Wedding Dress?

When you wear a white or ivory dress, you run the risk of feeling as if you're headed for the chapel instead of to the office, brunch, dinner or out on the town. Fortunately, I'm willing to take the risk in a dress as beautiful as this one from Shoshanna.

The dress is super comfortable, and I got compliments on it all day long! I love the high neckline and ruffles, and since it's made entirely from lace, it is so feminine yet still so sexy.

I haven't worn these Kate Spade sandals in quite a while, but I love how the ivory in the sandals goes perfectly with the ivory of the dress. You could also do a gold or nude colored sandal here as well.

Weekend Update

Chapin and I needed a nice relaxing weekend together, and that's exactly what we had. We barely left the house, but did venture out to dinner on Saturday night to one of our favorite seafood restaurants: Goin' Coastal. Afterward, we stopped for some sweet treats at Paolo's Gelato. We first went to this little gelato place in the Highlands during our first year of dating back in 2000. I can't believe that was 18 years ago! We will celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary later this year.

We don't go to the Highlands very often since we moved to West Midtown -- we used to take George there for doggie gelato all the time -- so now, when we're there, I just feel awash in memories. I wish time didn't have to move so fast.

Speaking of time, we bought the new Avengers movie over the weekend (Avengers: Infinity War), and I'm now obsessed with trying to figure out the plot of the sequel, due out in May 2019. I know time travel will factor into the story somehow... It will be torture waiting eight more months to see how my Guardians (and other favorite heroes) come back from the dead.

The dress retails for $228, but I bought it for just $45 at Belk (online).

Hitting a High Note

Today I'm wearing another whimsical dress from designer Eva Franco. If you look close enough, you can see that the pattern on the dress is actually made up of musical notes. What I don't know is if the notes correspond to an actual piece of music!

The dress is no longer available, but check out this similar style on Bluefly.com.

Dress: Eva Franco Black & Ivory Belted Music Note Dress

Sandals: Kate Spade New York Fresia Patent Platform Sandals

Lipstick: Lancome Rouge in Love #275 Jolie Rosalie

I am way overdue for a hair trim, so please excuse the state of my hair in today's picture. I am headed to the hair salon on Saturday!

UPDATE:
After posting this photo on Instagram, designer Eva Franco left a comment for me about the design:
Responding to the question of whether the notes correspond to an actual piece of music, Ms. Franco wrote:

It does, actually... to The Rite of Spring.

The Eyes Have It

Chapin was home this morning to take this photo on our patio, and he always does such a nice job. I like how the blue in my eyes is popping, making you almost miss the extremely dark circles underneath. I've definitely been working too much and not getting enough sleep this week.

We've been having some freak weather in Atlanta the last few days... temperatures in the 80s and low humidity. It's a summer miracle!

Celebrity Sighting!
Comedian and actress Michaela Watkins wore the dress on The Soup.
