Navy Does It

I am so excited about the new purse that Chapin gave me for my birthday. I finally have a navy bag! I have been searching for a good navy purse for a long time, and Kate Spade New York finally delivered.

Outfit Details

Dress: Shoshanna

Shoes: Jimmy Choo

Purse: Kate Spade New York Knightsbridge Constance Croco Embossed Patent Leather Tote

The bag, which seems to be sold out, came in a few colors -- navy, brown and cream -- and you can still find it available for purchase on eBay. I am such a sucker for purses that have that 1950s vibe, and this bag is definitely in that vein. I also like that it's larger than most of my purses, so I can easily fit in essentials like my iPad if I need to travel.

Here's another photo of my new favorite arm candy. I like to think my grandmothers toted around a purse like this one back when they were around my age.

In Living Color

It's been a crazy week... and it's not even Friday yet.

Sunday I ran a 5K (and won a silver medal for my age group), Monday I spent 14 hours as an extra on an Atlanta movie set, and in the days since, I have been playing catch up at work. There is so much going on! As the old saying goes... when it rains, it pours.

So the best way to brighten up a crazy, busy day? A colorful dress from my favorite designer, Shoshanna.

Sweet as Honey

Outfit Details:

Dress: Shoshanna Honeydew Shift Dress

Shoes: Stuart Weitzman Peep Toe Pumps

Work has been crazy so far this week - and it's only Tuesday! - so I'm expecting some long days and less sleep than usual. Hopefully, wearing bright, vibrant colors, like this orange-peach from Shoshanna, will help take some emphasis off the dark circles under my eyes!

Lucky Charms

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Today I'm wearing green for the holiday, and we just finished up a fun St. Patrick's Day party at the office, complete with green velvet cupcakes from Piece of Cake. It was so difficult not eating one, but alas, they were not gluten-free.

I do not have a drop of Irish blood, but I felt sort of Irish in my green dress and with my reddish hair. I'm really loving the red hair. I think it suits my complexion.

You may also notice that I'm wearing something new around my neck. Chapin gave me a beautiful necklace from Three Sisters Jewelry for Valentine's Day. The charm in the middle says "George," and I've included a close-up photo below so you can see the beautiful detail.

I have long been a fan of this website for its hand-stamped jewelry. I bought my sister, Laura, a necklace with the name of her son when she had her first baby, and added a new charm when she had her second. I've bought friends gifts from the site as well, some with the names of children, some with their own names!  I love personal accessories that not only look great, but also serve to remind you of something wonderful.

On that note, I want to thank all my blog readers and Instagram followers who have posted words of encouragement and support over these last few months. Reading those comments has meant so much to me. I know I'm lucky to have people in my life - some whom I've never even met! - who care about me and how I'm feeling.

Shifty

Dress of the Day: Shoshanna Beaded Simone Shift Dress

Celebrity Sighting!
Actress Marisa Coughlan wore the dress to an event last year. I actually met Marisa back in 1999 during the press junket for Killing Mrs. Tingle, along with Barry Watson and Katie Holmes. It was my very first press junket and my first time interviewing celebrities. I was so nervous I could barely sleep the night before. Ah, to be young again...

Actress Holly Robinson Peete was also seen in this dress.

Happy New Year 2015

I still can't believe it's 2015. We are in the future from Back to the Future II. Unfortunately, we don't have flying cars, but we do have the Tesla.

90s Throwback

I think this dress is a testament to the plaid rage of the mid-90s. I remember I had a black plaid skirt that I just loved. It looked like a kilt and even had the big metal pin affixed to it. I wonder now what I would say to myself about my fashion sense back in 1994.

Dress: Shoshanna Marlee Leather and Plaid Dress

It's available in a white/red/black color combo right now at Gilt.com. The dress runs a little big, so I would size down. You can see how the top doesn't really fit me quite right.

Celebrity Sighting!
Actress Camilla Belle was seen in the dress last year. I remember when she played the young Sandra Bullock in Practical Magic. I am getting so old!

Dress Like Jess (New Girl)

Today's dress of the day may look familiar to you if you're a fan of the Fox show New Girl. Jess (Zooey Deschanel) wore the Shoshanna Cassidy dress in the 2013 episode "Quick Hardening Caulk." This episode is one of my favorites, because not only does Jess start to admit that she's really attracted to Nick (Jake Johnson), but they visit a home building store together, where everything reminds her of sex.

If you like this magenta Shoshanna dress, you can rent it from Rent the Runway, or visit Shoshanna.com to shop a variety of styles from the designer.

The black and rose gold pumps are from Kate Spade New York. You would not believe the number of compliments I get from people when I wear these shoes. Today, in Publix, the cashier went crazy over them. She even brought her manager and another cashier over to see them. The shoes are sold out, but here's a similar style.

This dress is so comfortable, so I'm excited to wear it to my company's holiday party at Couscous Atlanta tonight. Everyone has worked so hard this year; I'm extremely proud of the team at Local Marketing, Inc.!

Warm in Wool

I love wool dresses, and they are perfect for cold, windy days like today. But living with two pugs means any fabric like wool is immediately covered in pug hair. Oh well, what can you do? I'm not going to give up my two cuddle bugs. Norman was being especially sweet this morning, wanting to nestle in my lap while I ate my breakfast.

Today's outfit is from my favorite designer, Shoshanna: just a simple blue and black wool sheath dress. Colorblocking is one trend that I have embraced wholeheartedly.

The dress is still available on Gilt.com. Click on this link to get an exclusive invite and save 30% off your first purchase.

Here is a shot with the blue Kate Spade purse that perfectly matches the blue in the dress.

Halloween is just days away, so I decided today I would break out this orange and black dress from Shoshanna.

Checkered

This dress always makes me think of a checkerboard, especially since I usually pair it with red accessories. I always enjoyed playing checkers as a child. My sisters and I had a two-sided game growing up: one side with the typical checkerboard, and the other with Chinese checkers. For some reason, we never learned to play the Chinese checker side... I have no idea why! I still don't know how to play to this day.

Checkers also makes me think of a certain scene from Overboard, one of my favorite movies ever. It is such a quotable movie. "Eat your checkers!" Check out the clip below.

Seeing Things

I certainly did not have the relaxing weekend with my boys that I had planned. When I went to bed this past Friday night, my eye was bothering me, and the pain became increasingly worse throughout the night. Early Saturday morning, I was diagnosed with an eye ulcer in my left eye. It's my first one. I hope I never have one again.

The punishment is that I cannot wear my contacts for at least a few weeks. I have not worn glasses to the office... ever. It's the nerdy 12-year-old girl in me that refuses to be seen in public in eyeglasses. Hopefully they don't look so bad, since I'll be wearing them every single day for a little while. Scroll down for a look.

Sweater Weather

I can't believe I'm saying it, but sweater weather has officially arrived. Although the highs are still in the upper 70s/early 80s, the mornings are starting off cold and crisp. Today, I broke out my first sweater of the season... a sweater dress, of course. This is me we're talking about!

Rainy Day Blue

It's raining cats and dogs today, so I thought I would wear a dress to match the weather. I think this blue dress is just beautiful; the pattern and the colors remind me of the ocean in moonlight.

Celebrity Sightings!
Multiple celebrities have been spotted in this dress:

Speaking of Scandal, I am currently obsessed with the show. I started watching it a few weeks ago on Netflix, and I've been binge watching ever since. If you haven't seen the show, and like drama mixed with romance with a pinch of murder and lots of sex, then you need to watch this show!

Fun fact: I actually met Tony Goldwyn back in 2001 during the junket for Someone Like You. He directed the film. I was never a fan - who could like him after Ghost? - but he's back on my good side as President Grant.

Stripe to It

Although I normally don't like wearing horizontal stripes - that type of pattern can tend to make you look wide - I still like this dress because it's just so darn comfortable. It's the perfect dress to wear to work the Friday before a holiday. It also just happens to be in my husband's two favorite colors, navy and orange, also the colors of his favorite sports team.

Dress: Shoshanna Denise Striped Navy and Mandarin Dress

The dress is not longer available in this design, but Saks Off 5th has some sizes left in the long-sleeved shift version.

Flats: Tory Burch Chelsea Ballet Flats in Navy Blue

Have a great Labor Day weekend!
